peg dolls and clothespin people - christmas ideas #5

There are so many varieties of styles of peg dolls - from very simply and beautifully painted dolls, and simply clothed dolls with bits of fabric and hessian glued on and wire or pipecleaners used as arms - which children can make or at least help make and design, to quite elaborately dressed dolls that are not suitable for children.

I personally think that these dolls are meant to be played with, to enhance imagination and used in all sorts of creative play situations.

An antique hand carved wooden peg doll - isn't it just beautiful. I love the simplicity - here

More great ideas! thanks, I just checked out "The complete book of activities, games , stories ect..." you suggested last night at the library, it's great. We made bakers clay today, and had fun. Thanks for the ideas.

Excellent links! Thank you.

I loved making clothespin dolls as a kid. I often think about doing so again (mostly while hanging the wash).

All these comments and of course, your ideas, Kath got me thinking...you could put out a little booklet of favorite stuff and homespun ideas. I know I'd be interested in something like that.

Just a thought...

Okay Kath you've done it. I'm making peg dolls immediately after the Christmas rush is over. I think Monster Crochet needs a few peg dolls to even out the Veggie overkill don't you?

Wow, how did I miss this post? I'll have to come back and peruse the links when there's more time for it.
Fun project to do with the kids.

Hi! Im 10, amd I was insperated when I saw this website, now im gonna go buy some clothes pins!!
I have made a german doll, and its hair is made with yarn, glued on with a hot glue gun. I used felt for the clothes. i wrapped yarn around its feet, and made a little sash and tied the dolls hair to the side with yarn, and used pipe cleaners for the arms

When I was a little girl, I had clothespin dolls that fit in a little half apron that someone (my Grandma I think) made for me. Recently, I found I still have the apron though not the dolls anymore, so I think I'm going to have to make some of these wonderful dolls to populate my apron.
