I decided to go with version 1 - thank you everyone for your opinions and advice.
Chocolate and red wine - say relaxing and luxery to me, rich deep reds make me feel strong and sensuous and creative, the hot reds and orange reds add an element of fire and the watermelon and peach and apricots are cool and fun.
Choosing fabrics the modern quilt way was challenging - looking for the right colours rather than going for gorgeous patterns was difficult (especially with a 3 year saying "mum this is boring" "mummy I want to go home now").
I had a lot of fun playing with combinations of colour and still havn't enough fabric yet to start the quilt. I am waiting on a order from eQuilter - I spent hours looking and added quite a few things to my wish list - also really love their design board.

Below are my 4 choices for backing fabric - in order of preference, I know the book says to buy it all at once but I just couldn't make that sort of decision on the spot. I hope they have enough fabric when I do decide which one I want 9 metres of!

Your red wine and chocolate color palette are simply beautiful. I like those color much more than the book. Can't wait to see the top come together.
