After Cindy Sherman. A series I did while pregnant 5 years ago with my first child. Here are some links to her early work which influenced this series:
woman on window sill :: pregnant woman :: housewife with dropped groceries :: woman with apron and head scarf :: woman on rumpled bed in underwear :: woman lying on ground :: from film still series :: woman at kitchen sink ::
An exerpt from her biography (for full article see her website.)
By turning the camera on herself, Cindy Sherman has built a name as one of the most respected photographers of the late twentieth century. Although, the majority of her photographs are pictures of her, however, these photographs are most definitely not self-portraits. Rather, Sherman uses herself as a vehicle for commentary on a variety of issues of the modern world: the role of the woman, the role of the artist and many more. It is through these ambiguous and eclectic photographs that Sherman has developed a distinct signature style. Through a number of different series of works, Sherman has raised challenging and important questions about the role and representation of women in society, the media and the nature of the creation of art.Her website has a few of her signature works

i discovered cindy sherman a few years back doing a mini photography course. my teacher had total respect for her and had also done a series of works based on her themes. she is an amazing artist.

Awesome photo-I think you just commented on my blog-and the answer is yes of course-thanks!
lovely! i just love the idea of turning the camera on ourselves, like cindy said, and using that as a medium. after all, you don't have to ever wait around for yourself, unlike other subjects. ;)
Wonderful photo - great colours and light as ever.
great shot!

Hello, there! I just found you from loobylu's new flickr site. I am wondering about the how-to on mud ovens. I'm fascinated with this. I noticed it's on a cement (?) block table...and I'm wondering about the construction. It sounds very interesting...would be be able to send me the how-to's or the link (if it's on your blogs)? I'd really appreicate it. Also, I know this one is for food but have you made one for ceramics? Thanks! Emily
I forgot to say...lovely photograph...and your outfit looks like a mingling of Russian peasant and modern day present. Love the colors!
Delicious colours. And the apron! And the angst in that expression ...
